he Giro d’Italia freshman-level language class at Georgetown University visited the Italian American Museum of Washington DC recently for a tour and discussion. The class, along with their Professor Louise Hipwell (at center, back), as well as Georgetown Professors of Italian Anna De Fina and Gianni Cicali (not pictured), toured the exhibitions and later participated in a discussion on “What is Italianness?”

The students explored themes such as the importance of food and cultural traditions, their own ethnicities and the significance of identifying as Italian American. The visit was a follow-up to an earlier slide presentation about the Museum by its director, Liz DiGregorio, at the students’ Georgetown classroom.
