The Board of Directors of the Italian American Museum of Washington, D.C. extends its warmest congratulations to Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia, who earlier this week presented his credentials at the White House as the new Apostolic Nuncio to the United States.

At a reception yesterday marking the first anniversary of the election of Pope Leo XIV, held at the Apostolic Nunciature, Archbishop Caccia delivered remarks that blended insight with gentle humor. Reflecting on the nation’s upcoming milestone, he observed:

“As the United States marks a very important 250th anniversary of its founding, we can give thanks for the ideals of freedom, responsibility, and human dignity that have shaped the nation’s history, and which continue to call for the Church’s service to the common good.”

Archbishop Caccia, 68, brings decades of diplomatic and pastoral experience to his new role. He previously served as Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations beginning in 2019. He succeeds Cardinal Christophe Pierre, 80, who served as Apostolic Nuncio to the United States since 2016.

The Museum celebrates Archbishop Caccia’s appointment and looks forward to continued collaboration with the Apostolic Nunciature in promoting cultural understanding, historical preservation, and the continuing contributions of the Italian and Italian American communities.
